Quail.

'Cause i'm moderating this forum from now on. apparently. until they realise i'm no good at all and kick me out XD

And... well... this is by way of being my; 'i want to hear what you want from this forum' thread announcement thing'. or something.

Because right now, this forum is simply a dumping ground for creative... stuff. I used to post various pieces of tat i'd written here, and if i was lucky, someone might look at it. And if i was REALLY lucky, i might get a comment. ^_^ then again, i could never really write anyway, and it's very different for most of the rest of the world.

I'm terribly sorry to say it, but there are gonna be some improvements around here... well... more... enlargements.

This forum can and will (if i get my ass into gear) begin to interest itself in... well, these things, amongst others...

- To begin with... well... i like the art of Escher a whole lot. stuff like this;

Image

... and is there any reason why there shouldn't be a thread about it?

I want to share art i like. stuff i find particularly cool. And i want to know what you like, hell, i'm pretty sure most of us enjoy looking at interesting art. *shrug* So i don't really see why creativity shouldn't be used for talking about art that we like? Its our forum. So, if you're willing to post art you like, i'm totally willing to look at it.

- when i say 'art', or 'creativity' .... and this is the biggest change i'd like to make... i don't just mean pictures and writing. i mean...

- literature? I want book recommendations, and its always awesome to find someone else who loved the Dark Tower series by Stephen King, or absolutely hates the Harry Potter films, cause they ruin the books (which they do. DO NOT ARGUE).

- music. I'm looking around now, and... well, TTC plays a bass pretty well, from what i hear. Oblivion is totally into his band, and it'd be nice to hear about that *shrug* if he's willing to talk about it. A major figure here is Bonanza. there's really nowhere on the mag where his news would fit in quite as well as here. ^__^ I, for one, want to know about the music you like. I know that at least some of you share my musical interests to at least a degree. And i also know you share one another's. So why not talk about it?

- Theatre, and Musicals. This one is basically OW's home... he knows WAY more about this kinda thing than i do. But... well, i'd still totally be prepared to listen. Even if i'm totally ignorant. >_<;

- Films and TV shows. If they actually ARE creative, i mean. For instance, i really like David Lynch, one of the 5 dvd's i have in the house in Nottingham is Mulholland Drive. Amongst the others are Donnie Darko, Gattaca, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I'd LOVE to know about other films you watched that you liked. And TV show's, too. The more intelligent ones, at least ^_^

and all that other stuff. poetry. roleplays, even. in fact, i'd like to promote my own roleplay, if i can ever get around to that. it'll be fun, trust me.

But theres another side to this.

An example of it would be the thread 'motivation'. Where people talk about HOW they create stuff, not just show what they do. I mean... what motivates YOU to create a thing? What media do you use? And why? There are a lot of different things i'd personally like to try, different tools and media. And why not talk about them here?

For instance, HOW THE HELL DOES Rodak do all that awesome fractal art? I'm pretty sure he's said before... but its just an example. Theres a whole lot to talk about, above and beyond just posting our art up here.

... that ^ is what i'd like this forum to become. And i intend to make a good job of this. i'll be around, whenever you post a submission you can be sure i've read it (i mean, i always used to look through this place anyway, i enjoy it). And... while i've been talking about 'I like this' and 'I want to hear this', what i really posted this for is to find out whether thats what YOU want to hear about and talk about.

So yeah. I want to hear what you have to say on this subject, and your suggestions as to how i go about building on what we have to produce what... well...

what would (i think) be an awesome asset to the Mag.

YOUR OPINIONS, PLEASE!!

-John

(ps - also, i want to bring the monthly art theme back somehow... only i'd like to make it easier and less time consuming, so more people actually DO it. your suggestions would be great.)

do, it sounds interesting ^_^

(also, btw... i have some buddies that are into making amateur films. i see no reason not to talk about films here. Or TV shows. As long as they try to be creative, i mean...

and i might post a couple of their efforts. As well as... and this is NOT a promise or in any way binding... maybe some tracks from the band i used to be in. we did a Castlevania cover i might or might not know where to possibly maybe get a copy of sometime never.)

but yeah. like i said before;

YOUR OPINIONS, PLEASE!!

... do you guys think that i'm doing this right?

I know my self.. I can't draw, I think my story ideas are lame, I like to do 3d art. However its kinda hard to bring a pottery wheel on the mag. XD
I like my Mag online RPG that I have. Not really too sure what you all are looking for. There are pics all over the net. So just to make threads with pics are kinda boring. We need fresh new ideas. But not sure what direction you want to go with this.

whatever you feel like providing, really.

*shrug* just hanging around is good, and its gotta be said that the RPG section of creativity is a big part of the forum.

^^ just stick around. if you see a thread you have something you could say, then go the hell ahead and say it.

I sent you a PM on an idea about making flash games that people on the mag can play together. What do you think of that idea Regal?

Just read my stories for entertainment. Maybe i'll request a sticky for a topic that includes all the stories i've written on the Mag.

actually... i was thinking of compliling a BIG sticky thread of everyone's contributions to this thread, referenced by author.

it'd take a little bit of work, but it might be worth it.

what do you guys think?

i think you should build an offshore site with a database and a fancy search system. *drool + starry eyes* ^____^

(note: i'm not making fun of you. i actually love databases and fancy queries that much

::Edit:: i would also like to point out that i'm not serious either >_< since that would be sort of over the top... especially given our current volume)

@kitty - you do pottery? you should totally take pictures of your stuff and post it. XD pleeeeeaaasse.

I'm loving the ideas. While I don't know much about rpgm (I'm trying to fix that) I love writing and I love sharing my writing with people. RP's, sketching, poetry, all things creative.

I also love the idea of a database. I love having something I can search through for hours on end lol.

@Kitty - O.O Pottery...oooooo...pretty...PLEASE!!!!

@Regal - Btw..since it seems we have a lot of book readers maybe we could actually put together some kinda of book club. We could submit suggestions and like pick books out for certain weeks and then talk about it. It be a good way to share thoughts and get favorite books that not a lot of people know about some spotlight. Just a random idea.

Cool, Regal. This thread might get some of our juices flowing.

M.C. Escher really is great. I've seen a variety of his pieces before, but they are always worth a fresh look. And to think, the piece you posted is from 1953.

I was recently at a Guitar Center in my neighborhood - a music store. I was looking for a way to somehow plug a keyboard directly into a USB port on my PS2 in order to record music I play for this "game" called Magix Music Maker Deluxe for PS2. I found out that there is this new cable that goes from a 1/4 plug (one of those fat headphone plugs) into a USB. That might be something you'd find helpful. It costs about $40 and it just came out recently apparently.

O_O

i'm totally getting my sister one for her birthday.

nice one bud, that actually sounds pretty awesome ^____^ i'd never heard of it either myself. though i guess i never really thought. my thing has always been more... guitars. *shrug* before i got lazy and stopped all that.

and yeah, Escher is absolutely stunning, especially for his time. i think i'm going to make a gallery thread sometime very soon if people remain this interested in Creativity. If you feel like it, start putting different pictures or comic strips or whatever into there. If you can think of pieces by professional artists... or just webcomics by amateurs, thats where all that stuff will go.

anyone else think they'd be able to find stuff for that? Even DA artists, just include a note of who the artist was ^^

and yeah...

@sumi - i'll set up an offshore site. round about the point when you get serious >_>

=P

And...

@kajak - a book club? if its practical, i'd certainly be up for it. the problem though would be if we could get enough people with a library close to them in which they are a resident. Me, i only have the university library which is entirely non-fiction. Perhaps, then, weekly is a little too often for book rotation. Monthly would work for me, though. it also depends if anyone else would be interested. the best thing to do, of course, is ask around.

^_^ any other opinions on the idea... would you guys consider doing and/or be able to do it?

I would probably try to do the book club and be busy and fail horribly. *sigh*
But i would try. maybe succeed. who knows. but most likely fail horribly. though there is something to be said for saterday afternoons. probably by next month when i have a real schedule going maybe i could work it in so that i can't avoid it.
hmm... *think think*

LOl..it was just an idea. Monthly sounds great. Or even if not a book club like a discussion about books we've already read.

I love the gallery idea. I'd be posting in there all the time. A poetry thread or something like that would be nice too. When I right story ideas I tend to use a lot of rhymes and whenever I see a rhyme (that's not cheesy) in a game I flip for it. Maybe people looking for rhymes for storyline parts could go there to and some of us could contract out lol.

Just throwing ideas out.

@Regal and Sumi - Monthly sounds wonderful to me.

@Kitty - :( No pottery?.....me sad now.

How about if we make things, then sell them. Then take the money and give it to the mag to make it better?

well making thing is always fun. that's the whole idea i think. i don't know about selling them and giving money to the mag though :\ if ixzion needed server fee money he would probably have a donation box.

but we could make things for fun of course ^____^
