Every year it rolls around and I can't avoid it no matter where I turn....9/11 stuff.

Now, I'm not saying I love the event. I'm not out here to hate anyone, or make anyone feel bad. I simply wish to express my feelings, so bear with me.

Now, I am usually a closed mind person. I admit it. It wasn't such a tragic event for me. Maybe because I am slighty cold hearted. Maybe it's because I'm in Washington state, well away from NY. Hell, I don't know anyone who lives even close to NY.

But I wish there wasn't 9/11 stuff all over the place whenever September rolls around. All the movies, specials, ads, it drives me nuts! I can't take it! No more, I say!

I was hoping someone else felt the same way I do.....or you can speak your feelings on this topic. Again, this is just for discussion, I don't want to hurt anyone.

I don't really want to remember the event. Not because it makes me sad, but because it makes families of the people who died sad. They can't forget that there children, spouse, ect. died on this day because no one will let them forget it.

I have no sympathy for tragedies of epic proportions, they get enough as it is.

And you too, 1ce. They just exploit the hell out of 9/11. You can't even turn on the TV without seeing 9/11 this and that.

I'm sorry that those people died, but I'm sick and tired of 9/11. I mean, when Pearl Harbor got attacked, they didn't spend all this time on it.

Welcome to the republican faction and how time has changed. The media use it for ratings because people have lost someone special to them and its been awhile since america has had any fear. Alot of the media don't give a damn about the person's lost just the ratings and the mysteries behind 9/11

Okay, it was tragic. Okay, many people died. Okay, it was nothing to be happy about.

I'm pretty sure that if it hadn't happened in the USA (but with the same number of dead people), there wouldn't be such a fuss.

It's mainly the fault of the media. They need to keep people hooked on their channels and to keep their rating up. People like watching news about bad stuff for some reason. It makes for a good story. That's all it is... a good story.

BTW, I did read the amendments to the rules and whatnot.

It's explioted and publicized so much even 5 years later because it happened in the USA. do you see a big deal being made every year about the tidal wave that swept millions of families and houses and everything away? no because that was in asia/africa/whatever...

I disagree with you guys, and i think that if you don't want to know, just change the channel, or maybe turn the tv off. You're all just saying 'thank god it wasn't me, and i wish they'd stop going on about it'.

i don't approve of the way the media covers 9/11, nor have i ever agreed with the way it has before. I think that tragedies elsewhere, like other natural disasters or... well... basically everything thats happened in most of africa for the last couple of decades, should get coverage. they don't. the reason is, once a tragedy loses its novelty for most people, they stop caring.

you know why other disasters DON'T get coverage? cause no-one would care.

considering what an important backdrop 9/11 is to the events of the past few years, the wars and all that you might think were evil or necessary, to hear you saying all that ^...

No, I am very sorry those people died on 9/11. As Regal said, I disapprove of the way the media handles it.

I believe that all of these constant reminders are disrespectful to people who have to live with these facts. As facts said, no one will let those people put it behind them with constant reminders.

Looking back at my post, it does seem like I was "inconvenienced" by the 9/11 stuff, but like I explained before, it wasn't that.

But I can't run away from all this coverage. I want everything to be normal again, and not have this stuff crammed in my face wherever I go.

Regal, I understand what you mean when you say turn off the TV, but then what? I go online and there it is on the front page of yahoo. They're in ads, newspapers, TV, there's no escape. And I'm guessing if you were a part of 9/11, you surely would want to pack up and move on. It's been 5 frickin years.

i want to say that i don't think badly of anyone for getting annoyed at the way 9/11 is touted about everywhere at each anniversary. its a reasonable point of view.

9/11 won't and more importantly shouldn't go away, however much you may want it to. things won't be 'normal' again, because the world changed after 9/11. new wars and oil prices are just examples. America and its allies are more aggressive as a result and terrorism, for better or worse, is now the new communism. and thats totally apart from the fact that it was an atrocity and more importantly it bred a phobia in the minds of arguably the most important nation in the world. paranoia is the worst thing to instil in the citizens of a state. i'm reminded of this....

but.... do you think the families of the victims will ever forget 9/11? do you think that its the tv that reminds them 'oh yeah, its the 5th anniversary of the death of my child/sibling/parent/partner'? i figure they already know.

i agree with a lot of what you said, though. i think there are far more important, relevant, and interesting stories out there now to chase. but the media is... dumbing down. popularising. and indeed, if the media moguls out there seem to think that 9/11 is what the people want to hear about, then i figure they may well be right.

this 9/11 fixation says more about us and our morbid take on entertainment than about the media. if people start feeling queasy, they should remember that this is the dish they ordered.

Agreed. This whole thing gives me night mares of the end of the world. If people can stop talking about it I can live a better life. So can everyone else.
