DLC can be done right. And it has been a great aid in reviving older games or adding replay value to something you would have otherwise be done with. DLC with game like Left 4 Dead, Dark Souls, Borderlands, and many others have treated DLC and it's players with respect.

But...

On the other hand, there are developers out there that have been completely and utterly abusing DLC and pre-orders to milk a game for far greater than it's worth. Basically turning content that SHOULD be in the game, into something you have to pay for. Going so far as to even include the content in the original disc, and locking it for a key you would have to purchase at a later date. Games have even come out with $160 worth of DLC on the day they release... and still have a $60 price tag.

Fast forward to now.

Injustice 2 is going to release this year. It has a roster of 40 character. But an entire fourth of that roster is being blocked out as DLC characters.... which you can buy at 5 bucks a pop. So for 45 dollars on top of the 60 you've already spent, you can have the full roster (of which you should already get, seeing as these characters are already finished and balanced, day one). But hey, look, you can buy the "ultimate" edition and get the full roster for only $99 dollars! What generosity!

This is cancerous to the gaming community and needs to stop.

It won't stop until people stop paying for it. And this is something gamers will pay money for. Nintendo is probably one of the best at DLC, imo. It's usually really cheap for the content they push out. But this is what the market is telling these developers, and they will listen to the market.

I miss the 90s and early 2000s. Buy a game, get a cartridge or disc, that's the entire game, end of story. Keep it simple and keep it fun.
