If anyone were to ask me what some of the best PS2 games are, Odin Sphere will definitely be on that list. It received one of the highest scores out of games I reviewed back in my old blog and I keep getting the itch to go back and play it again.

Now there's the perfect excuse:

I absolutely hated Odinsphere. Never before in a PS2 game (specially one that had such deep RPG elements) force so much repetition. You quite literally had to play through the same game five times to beat it once. And the characters weren't even that varied... as they shared a lot of the same special abilities (just learned in different orders). On top of that, the story wasn't even that good. Just your generic 'legend come true' fantasy cliche.

And worst of all was what was expected of the player to level up. Getting your attack stat up was fine. As you defeat enemies, they drop orbs. Collecting them will level up your attack... but your max HP will stay the same. The way you increase your max HP is by going to a restaurant and paying them to cook you food, but you have to be the one to provide the ingredients for them. The way you get these ingredients is by planting seeds in THE MIDDLE OF COMBAT. Using the same orbs it takes to level up your attack, you can grow these seeds that will yield the ingredients needed. Sometimes enemies will drop them and sometimes you can buy them from merchants, but most of the time you will be farming them yourself amidst your fighting. And even if you have the ingredients and the money, you have to have the recipe the cooks need as well or they won't cook a damn thing for you. This whole process takes HOURS boring pain.

Honestly the only good thing I could possibly say about the game was that it looked amazing. The graphic style was truly some of the best the PS2 had to offer.
