We Want RPG Tsukuru 4!!!

Ever since the fateful article from the RPG Maker Pavilion, there has been an interest sparked in RT4. In order to have that voice heard, RPGMM has decided to make this issue's cover story focused on that. We hope this reaches the right people's ears.

THE HUNGER FOR MORE
Ever since Valkysas went in depth to bring us information about the never released maker to the states, RPG Tsukuru 4 (RT4), there has been a bit of a stir around the RPG making community. How can a maker that is as easy to use as RPG Maker 1 as customizable as RPG Maker 2 never make it overseas?

The answer is simple: The team that produced RPG Tsukuru 4 left Enterbrain before the localization process could have taken place and since then, Enterbrain's main focus has long since passed on console RPG Makers and is now focused on a Japanese cell phone RPG Maker. This leaves everyone here in the states empty handed.

So how far does the information go? Well, as stated, it all started when Valkysas wrote a three part article at the Pavilion about RPG Tsukuru 4:

That was enough to wet our whistles here at the Mag. Since then there have been quite a few threads discussing RT4 including importing the Japanese version and discussions about what features it should/might have. Eventually Draygone, here at the Mag, wrote This Article about it which only furthered RT4's interest. Since then allot of RT4 content has been turning up. Such as Youtube videos of Tsukuru 4 and even A Translation FAQ from GameFaqs.

I have just recently gotten my hands on a imported copy of RPG Tsukuru 4 and I plan to go even more in depth to bring you even more content on the Maker than never made it. So let's go ahead with it!

One of the first things that I wanted to know about RT4 was what the music sounded like. So after I finally got used to navigating the menu, I found the option in the map editor to select background music. Including the initial "None" track, there are 41 tracks in total. But here's the kicker: There are not just 41 slots for music but 56 instead. Does that mean that RT4 has a music Maker? Perhaps. It's very possible. Even if the maker wasn't in RT4, it could be made and imported though Music: Music Creation for the PlayStation, a game for Playstation. That aside, I wanted bring RT4's music to you guys, so I took the time to pull all the tracks out and edit them to create a RPG Tsukuru 4 soundtrack. It is identical to the way it appears in the game.

Now that we have the music, let’s go on to some visuals, shall we? If you've read Valkysas' articles, you know RT4 has some amazing summon spell animations. After looking threw the menus, I found them all. There are a total of 28, which is way more than I expected. They range from very awesome to just straight up bizarre. Actually, RT4 has three different methods of making magic spells. The first one is quite similar to RPG Maker 1. select a model from a list. Then, through a number of frames (ten actually, as compared to RPG Maker 1's 3 frame animations), you can animate it using different transitions and effects. The second is pre-rendered animations that happen on-screen. These look allot better than the first and you still have a bit of creative control over it such as size and color. The third and final method is the full screen summon FMVs. As of now, we just have some screen shots of a few of them. Luckily, I was able to capture them all, so enjoy.

Personally, I think that's better than anything visually in RPG Maker 2 or 3. Granted I give RM2 its props for its animator which goes allot farther than anything in RT4... or any maker for that matter. But there is a certain charm for the FMVs here. If you noticed in the videos, the battle layout for the enemy models were animated. Which actually lead me to looking for all the enemy models in RT4. Finding it revealed that there are a number of models to choose from, all of which are animated. Some are returning models from PRG Maker 1 no less. And just like in RM1, they have four color variations. Also, I took some time to check out all the character models in RT4. Though I'll I picked up was their walking animations and their matching portraits. There are also four color variations to the models as well as the portraits.
